North Georgia Fall Festivals, The Great Outdoors

The Cumming Country Fair & Festival has been around for thirteen years, so they knowhow to entertain and do it well. This event broke all attendance records in 2006 and they are ready for another show stopper. There are so many things to see and do

within the boundaries of the fairground complex.  Gracing our front cover is just a sampling of the Cherokee Indian Village. Step back in time and visit an encampment that will show you how the Cherokee Indians lived in this area many years ago.

Who can resist the midway? A cornerstone of the fair, the famous James H. Drew Exposition returns with the world’s most progressive midway, featuring over 40 rides and numerous games that will surely provide fun for the entire family. There are also many exciting ground acts for your enjoyment. New for 2007 is All the King’s Horses, showcasing breeds of horses used by nobility long ago. Watch for Oscar the Robot, who will be roaming the grounds wanting to entertain you.

The Heritage Village will again be on display. Visit the reproduction of a turn-of-the-century town, complete with an art deco barber shop—whose contents came from the same area of Chicago that Al Copone came from—the blacksmith shop, cider press, cotton gin, doctor’s office, general store, post office, a one-room schoolhouse, and much more.

The concert arena features free concerts with the price of admission. There is a different entertainer each night singing and playing your favorite music—folks like the Charlie Daniels Band, Bo Bice, Heartland, and Todd Agnew. See pages 32 and 33 of this issue for a complete lineup of the talent at this year’s Fair.

This issue is a packed with other interesting festivals across the state. From exciting to just plain odd, there is definitely a festival for everyone! If crowds aren’t what you seek, we haveample content about things to do in the great outdoors—from whitewater to tree climbing. We hope you’ll have as much fun reading this issue as we have had putting it together.
